You know the feeling. You ask an AI tool for a dashboard and it hands you something clean in under a minute. Good spacing, modern type, on-trend colors. So now the question on your desk is simple: if the machine can do the polished screen, what are your designers actually for?
A cluster of award-winning studios just answered that in a way you can steal. Let me catch you up on what they're building and what it means for your roadmap.
When the screen stops being the point
One designer put words to the shift a lot of us feel. After years tuning padding by four pixels in Figma, Ravidudilusha wrote that he watched AI generate a polished dashboard in seconds, cards aligned and type modern, and realized the clean interface was no longer the finish line.
That's the ground under your feet now. A tidy layout is table stakes. The studios winning FWA and Awwwards awards are not competing on cleaner buttons. They are building experiences you move through, not screens you look at.
The practical read: your team's edge is no longer "can we make it look good." It's "can we make someone feel something and remember it."
The report nobody reads, made into a world

Unseen Studio took an RSPCA report, the kind of sobering PDF people ignore, and rebuilt it as five miniature 3D worlds for its Animal Futures campaign. Visitors navigate each future at their own pace, solve challenges, collect rewards. Passive reading became active participation. For a Bordeaux château, they told a geological story millions of years old through motion and sound instead of the usual terroir explainer.
Same lesson from makemepulse, whose UNESCO virtual museum of stolen cultural objects rebuilt 248 items from 50 countries out of fragmentary photos. The point was to make absence visible. Four of those objects have since been recovered. That's what an experience does that a slide deck can't.
Craft this heavy still has to run on a cheap phone
Now the catch, and it's the part that separates a demo from a shippable product. This work is expensive to build and easy to break. The teams that win treat performance as part of the design, not a cleanup task at the end.
The ZERO project is the clearest example. It took a gigabyte of source assets and shipped a site under 10MB that runs at 60fps on a budget Android phone. That took four months, most of it spent preparing assets, not making them. They built a custom tool just to preview texture compression, tuning each asset by hand instead of using one global setting that would waste memory or wreck quality.
The team also learned a lesson the hard way: they hosted their asset decoders on someone else's server, that server slowed down, and every compressed file failed. As they put it, if your decoder lives on someone else's server, so does your pipeline. Bring that one to your engineers.
Where AI actually helps, and where it doesn't

Their line: writing the initial code became the easy part, and the real work was evaluating results and making every interaction feel right. Robin Payot told the Three.js Conference that designers at his company now ship production code with AI assistants, something unimaginable two years ago, but you still need to understand what the code does.
So AI compresses the grunt work and moves the value to taste, iteration, and knowing when something is right. That's a job description your senior people already have.
The deep cut
The thing easy to miss: these teams treat animation, 3D, sound, and interaction as one system, not four features bolted together. Trionn built its hero so that scroll, hover, and hold all feed a single value that controls how far the brand symbol's panels separate. One number drives everything, so every state flows into the next instead of jumping.
That's not just clean code. It's the reason the experience feels alive instead of like a stack of tricks. If your team is scoping an immersive project, the failure mode is treating the WebGL, the motion, and the audio as separate tickets owned by separate people. Budget for the connective work between them, because that seam is where memorable and janky get decided. On Monday, ask whether your interactive work has an owner for the whole system, or just owners for the parts.
